YouTube never held a live broadcast itself, ranging from U2 concert to Obama's speech. Now, Google's service is trying to broadcast directly from a third party. The trial begins Monday (9/13/2010) at 8 am local time (Pacific Standard Time).
This trial lasted only two days. Direct broadcast content that would be present is from Howcast, Next New Networks, rocketboom and Young Hollywood.
To utilize this feature, content providers simply use an external webcam or camera connected via USB or Firewire. During the live broadcast, viewers also have the chance to comment directly.
To know what events will be aired, YouTube provides an interactive schedule. Schedules can be viewed on YouTube official blog, complete with embed code, for taped anywhere on your site or blog.
This step will strengthen the position of YouTube, in competing with other live services on the internet. Including Justin.tv, Ustream.tv and Livestream.
Previously, YouTube had held a live U2 concert, a speech the President of the United States and many others. But it was all done themselves and closed.
If this trial is successful, it is not impossible these live streaming services will be open to all YouTube users.
